Open Seminar: US University Application Requirements & Timeline

Seoul Scholars International organized an open seminar for 10th and 11th-grade students and their parents on Wednesday, October 11th. The seminar featured SSI counselors, Ms. Song and Ms. Linda, who provided valuable insights into US university applications.

The first part of the seminar, conducted by Ms. Song, covered the key elements that 10th and 11th-grade students should concentrate on when preparing for college admissions. These included essays (personal statements and supplemental essays), recommendation letters, and interviews, which are often essential for top 30 universities. A breakdown of college admissions criteria from “hard skills” like course rigor, GPA, SAT/ACT scores, and awards to “soft skills” such as community impact, extracurricular activities, and university fit was also discussed.

In the second segment, Ms. Linda, the 12th-grade counselor at Seoul Scholars International, presented essential information regarding college application portals and the structured admission preparation timeline for students grade 10 through 12. The seminar concluded with case studies of students who secured admission to universities like UCLA and Emory.

The series of seminars will continue, with the next event focusing on the academic and extracurricular priorities for 8th and 9th-grade students, along with an overall roadmap for their college application journey.
