The UCSC has visited our Seoul International Scholars and gave updates in their college admission.
1. The test is conducted with blinds. Admission will not consider an applicant’s test scores, such as SAT/ACT/ even if they are submitted.
2. If you’ve completed all or some high school or secondary school in a country where English was not the language of instruction, you will be required to demonstrate English proficiency if you have had less than 3 years of instruction in English.
3. Grades are important. A-G requirements are general guidelines catered to US/California citizens. UC GPA Eligibility: 3.4 eligibility (A-G subjects only and taken in 10 & 11 grades)
4. 9&12 grades are still conducted for the reasons below:
9th – to see what courses you started from and see the academic progress
12th – to see if you are taking relaxing classes or continously taking rigorous classes. You should maintain good grade, otherwise your admission could be dropped.
5. 13 components of admissions which includes
– Academic achievement (course rigor, academic trajectory, GPA)
– ELC (honors programs, special projects)
– Personal: school, family, community context [can use this to explain why certain discrepancies in grades or school life may have happened]
– Special talents: skills, awards(Current/Real/Continuing)leadership
*It is important to show candidate’s involvement and engagement. Write as much detail and specific as possible.
